Serpentine Belt Tensioner Bolt Stripped Hole, Please Help

(the top one in this picture).:( i am assuming i am going to have to go with a helicoil kit to fix this. While putting the new timing belt on, i somehow managed to strip out a portion of the belt tensioner pulley bolt hole.

It's somewhat odd that the threaded rod stripped like that as it is steel and the clamp nut is made out of brass. I know from my research i am not the first to experience this issue. After loosening what i think is the thicker ac line, getting the serpentine belt pretty close to in place, and wedging the black pipe between the upper tensioner bolt and the alternator wheel (i know!), i was actually able to move the tensioner far enough to get the belt back on.

The bolt does not seem to come out on the. You need a good tap & die set. Joined apr 30, 2003 · 154 posts. If that is what you stripped then you'll likely need to find someone to weld another nut on it so you can remove, once the belt is off then get a new tensioner too.

If you can expose those stripped threads enough to run a die over the length of the bolt, you may be able to revive it long enough for another use. Today while replacing my alternator i was putting the serpentine belt tensioner back on and stripped the thread which the longer bolt goes into. Tensioner bolt brakes twice in a week! The serpentine belt of the 98 corolla is difficult to get to cause theres so little room between the engine and the fender wall, but at the top of the engine on the passenger side, theres a small, black and silver compression spring, two bolts through it follow it down to the tensioner pulley, my bolt on the tensioner pully was stripped so i removed the compression spring.

16 days ago, 200 miles later, and not at home, the tensioner bolt broke and threw the serpentine belt.

The savior was a piece of 1 (inner diameter) black pipe that i had. There's should be a 17mm or 19mm nut that you can use to pull the tensioner off the belt enough to remove/replace. Definitely replace that bolt if it's stripped. But it looks that tapping it with a punch/chisel is my best option to do it myself.

Another was to take a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut a notch into the center and use a flat head bit to remove it, another was chisel off the bolt head and pull off the tensioner and deal with the remaining stud instead of a stripped/unusable bolt head. When i realized what was happening, it was too late. So i did my timing belt and water pump on my 08 v6 and all went well. I just came back from the dealer and my serpentine belt tension bolt hole in the block is stripped and won't tighten up.

Three weeks later one of the tensioner assembly bolts sheared off at the engine block rendering the car with inop alt/ps.

If it's the fake nut for tension, yes cut belt overall easier, if you don't want to do that, get some vice grips and clamp on, muscle it back and remove belt.

You'll have just seconds to stop/park your car before overheating your engine. Pretty sure those don't have a bolt to release tension. They did not seem to want anything to do with it. I screwed this up when i was tightening the bolt after a belt replacement.
