In addition to the voltage rating, you have to consider the current rating when you shop for a doorbell transformer. 24v at 40va transformer my old transformer was16v at 20va and it was buzzing like a bumble bee rally annoying at night, personally i replaced my transformer with this one because of ring video doorbell and finally work much better no waiting to download the video. Currrently, i have removed the metal bars from the mechanical doorbell so that it doesn’t make a sound. I had a rvd 2 and a utlitech (lowe’s) variable voltage doorbell transformer set on 16v, 10va trickle charging the rvd2. But, i would like to have it work the way it is supposed to. But, the existing mechanical doorbell rings about every 30 seconds.
If i'm not getting 24va coming out o the transformer, clearly the ring pro won't get enough power to work, but i can't figure out why i'm not getting 30va coming of the transformer.

Replaced my rvd2 with the ring pro last wednesday, 6/26 and changed the wiring on the transformer to 24v, 20va. I have a ring doorbell that was recently replaced. Ad browse & discover thousands of brands. I am still having some power related issues, so i'm pretty sure that i need to upgrade the transformer.

Wired 16v 30va doorbell transformer compatible with ring pro. 24v 500ma transformer, ac power supply compatible with all versions of ring doorbell and nest learning thermostat ecobee. I am starting to think about installation i have been reading online…seems like of folks say just upgrade to a 24 volt transformer and save your self a headache.

So i am getting a ring pro doorbell for christmas to integrate into my smart home…. I thought that this was fine, but i read online that the 10va may be insufficient. Went out and spent $25 on a 24v @ 20va transformer. Better quality, smarter chime, and more flexible all around.

I took my multi meter and found 119/120v on the breaker side of the transformer, but only 20va coming from the 16v 30va transformer on the doorbell side. Was having issues with the doorbell while my readings hovered around 4150mv and red (android). Attached is a diagram of how things are hooked up. However, it can go up to 24 volts.
I installed the ring video doorbell pro and it works ok.
