Paulownia is a very lightweight hardwood. I bought a gfs paulownia cream colored tele body, edenhaus maple neck, seymour duncan 59 in the neck and an antiquity tele pickup in the bridge. Several electric guitars manufacturers are now using empress wood to make guitar bodies including fender. This is an outstanding guitar with tone that is over the top.

I've heard that a hard, thick poly finish protects it considerably, but haven't had experience there. Empress wood (paulownia tomentosa) is becoming a popular choice for electric guitar and bass bodies. My paulownia guitar sounds terrific and sustains fine. It resonated really nicely, even acoustically, and that guitar was light!
