Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens Review
A few months ago we saw olympus release a wide to tele professional zoom lens which has now been followed by a fast tele zoom aimed at professional sports and nature photographers (this will no doubt appeal to portrait photographers as well).
I love mine despite the girth/weight.
Close focus is a very close 2.3 feet (0.7m), which gives it a reasonable 1:5 maximum magnification. While the lens hood is certainly a unique and cool design, letting you contract it so it goes back on the lens, it definitely has a high likelihood of breaking. Yes, it is expensive but if you want a lens to bring out the best in the micro four thirds sensor look no further. That being said, am f/2.8 telephoto is one of the most useful lenses and the oly is one of their best lenses for general use.
As part of the pro series of advanced lenses, this zoom distinguishes itself with a bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture for consistent illumination.
But while both of these options provide constant aperture coverage over a wide focal range, the olympus zooms significantly longer. The zoom positions are marked at 40, 50, 70, 100, and 150mm, and the zoom rotation is less than a quarter turn from minimum to maximum. Btw, if you haven’t been here, they do amazing work to care for and rehabilitate wildlife.
