Blanch the basil in boiling water for 30 seconds, then rinse in cold water. Macerating is similar to marinating—the fruit also absorbs the flavors of the liquid as they soak. Strain the mixture through a sieve, and return to the pot.

Macerated strawberries can be refrigerated, covered, up to 1 day.
