Genesis 27:28,29 therefore god give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:. But that request was denied, that he might not be too proud of his conquest, nor think he had the angel at such an advantage as to oblige him to what he pleased. And he blessed him there.

He replied, “jacob.” 28 “your name will no longer be jacob,” the man told him.
Then he set out on his journey back home.
While preparing in fear to meet his brother esau, jacob finds himself grappling with an unknown stranger in the dark. For as a prince hast thou power with god and with men, and hast prevailed. 27 so he asked him, “what is your name?” and he said, “jacob.” 28 and he said, “your name shall no longer be jacob, but [] israel; Jacob sees angels—he asks god to preserve him from esau, for whom he prepares presents—he wrestles all night with a messenger of god—jacob’s name is changed to israel—he sees god face to face.
27 the man asked him, “what is your name?” “jacob,” he answered.
Jacob didn’t know how esau would receive him. Because you have struggled with god and with humans and have overcome.”. Then jacob asked him, “please tell me your name.” but he said, “why is it that you ask my name?” and there he blessed him. ( exodus 3:13 ) ;
He said, thy name shall be called no more jacob — or, as the words should rather be rendered, shall not only be called jacob, but israel, or israel rather than jacob, a man prevailing with god, rather than a supplanter.
It is evident he was afterward called jacob, as well as israel,. — canst thou be at any loss to know who i am? 28 and he said, thy name shall be called no more jacob, but israel: 1 and jacob went on his way, and the angels of god met him.
And he said, wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name?
2 and when jacob saw them, he said, this is god’s a host. Genesis 32:26 then the man said, let me go, for it is daybreak. but jacob replied, i will not let you go unless you bless me. genesis 32:28 then the man said, your name will no longer be jacob, but israel, because you have struggled with god and with men, and you have prevailed. 29 jacob said, “please tell me your name.”. 3 when jacob saw them he said, “this is god’s encampment.” so he named that place mahanaim.
And jacob asked [him], and said, tell [me], i pray thee, thy.

He dismisses him with a blessing, genesis 32:29;
But instead of telling him his name, he gave him his blessing, which was the thing jacob wrestled for; He blessed him there — repeated and ratified the blessing formerly given him. Near morning, the man gains a massive advantage over jacob by dislocating jacob's hip. 27 so he said to him, what is your name? and he said, jacob. 28 then the man said, you shall no longer be called jacob, but israel, for you have striven with god and with humans, and have prevailed. 29 then jacob asked him, please tell me your name.
But he replied, “why do you ask my name?”.
29 and jacob asked him, and said, tell me, i pray thee, thy name. And he said, i will not let thee go, except thou bless me. In genesis 32, jacob faced that kind of crisis. Wherefore dost thou ask after my name?
For you have struggled with god and with men and have prevailed.” 29 then jacob asked him, “please tell me your name.” but he said, “why is it that you ask my name?”
Then he blessed him there. Jacob desired to know the angel's name, that he might, according to his capacity, do him honour, judges 13:17. 2 meanwhile jacob continued on his own way, and god’s angels encountered him. Genesis 32:26 and he said, let me go, for the day breaketh.
He wrestles with the mysterious man for much of the night.
