I do like using mdf and this was the worst case scenario because of those little rips. 3mm, 1/8inch, 3.6mm, 4mm, 4.5mm. This is due to high stress concentrations I tried a lot of different patterns to try to achieve different results, most of which were failed attempts at making a doubly curved surface.
However, some flexible mdf patterns might not be so flexible if they are thicker.
