Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. I visited and made a couple of really quick drawings finishing off with some iPhone pics of the same view. My painting is tighter than I was aiming for but some of what Im struggling with at the moment is understanding how the medium behaves. In time I hope confidence will free things up.

An 1878 drawing of the Clifton Suspension Bridge After the passing of the Act for the Great Western Railway reestablished financial confidence work resumed in 1836 but subsequent investment proved woefully inadequate. Despite the main contractors going bankrupt in 1837 the towers were built in unfinished stone. Clifton Suspension Bridge is one of Bristols most recognisable structures. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel it marks a turning point in the history of engineering and has come to symbolise a city of original thinkers and independent spirit.
