The marlin 1894 in 44 mag that i’ve owned simply don’t have the correct bore diameter or twist. It also has added recoil. You can even find a few +p loads.

The 45/70 hand loaded for a ruger #1 is one mean rifle, so is the marlin 45/70 just don't expect it to run a hot load your ruer likes. Created in 1857 the 22 short is the oldest american cartridge. But loses half its energy at 100 yards to get an idea when comparing rounds. A hotgun slug has 70 to 80 tkof!!!!
